An Aortic - Right Ventricular Fistula of More than Eighteen Months' Duration

چکیده
THE establishment of a fistulous tract between the aorta and the right ventricle poses critical problems in cardiopulmonary dynamics. The higher aortic pressure drives an excessive flow of blood into the right ventricle and overloads it. The increased pulmonary arterial pressure and blood flow lead to pulmonary edema and right heart failure, thereby precipitating a fulminating course and early death in most patients who develop such a fistula.1-3 We have observed a patient with such a fistula that had been present for at least 18 months. Anatomic findings in the heart suggest a possible mechanism for the prolonged survival.

متن کاملUndetected Aorto-RV Fistula With Aortic Valve Injury and Delayed Cardiac Tamponade following a Chest Stab Wound: A Case Report
INTRODUCTION Although a few patients will survive after penetrating cardiac injuries, some of them may have unnoticeable intracardiac injuries. The combination of aorto-right ventricular fistula with aortic valve injury is rare. CASE PRESENTATION A 19 year-old man referred with an aorto-right ventricular fistula accompanied with aortic regurgitation and delayed tamponade following a stab in t...
متن کاملElective correction of intracardiac lesions resulting from penetrating wounds of the heart.
Controversy exists regarding the timing and technique of total correction of traumatic intracardiac lesions. Five patients with penetrating wounds of the heart received emergency treatment aimed at securing normal haemodynamics. No attempt was made to identify intracardiac lesions at this stage. Cineangiography two months to seven years later showed aorto-right ventricular fistulae in all patie...
متن کاملTransesophageal color flow Doppler features of aorta to right ventricle fistula.
A patient developed aortic-to-right ventricular fistula after aortic valve replacement surgery and infective endocarditis. The fistula was not detected by transthoracic two-dimensional echocardiography and color flow Doppler. The transesophageal study, however, was instrumental in diagnosing this entity and prompting surgical resection of the fistula.
